CURRENT RESEARCH

Our long term interest in host-microbe interactions has led us in new directions and into new research models.

After studying the relationships between gut microbiota and immune responses in both mice and pigs, we are now transitioning our research program to study such interactions in a new model: the cockroach. The American (Periplaneta americana) and German (Blatella germanica) cockroaches offer tremendous opportunities to study such interactions in both germ-free and well-defined gnotobiotic formats.

About Us

Our lab at Auburn University has undergone some changes in the last two years. With the graduations of several students, we now have a new group of graduate students and are embarking on a brand new research model system, the cockroach.

Hello

My name is Elizabeth Schwartz

I am a cellular immunologist with over 20 years experience in Immunology research and teaching. My specific interests are in host-microbe interactions. I have had the pleasure of working with a long list of talented graduate researchers in my laboratory over the years and am excited for the next chapter of our research journey with these new students in the cockroach system.
